The Overview

Directories are very similar to the phone book. The directory has different catagories, which lists business's (and websites) that relate to that catagory. They can contain a broad spectrum of information (such as the Yahoo! Directory), or be targeted to a niche (such as conventionplanit.com)

Most directories fail for one reason - usage. Its just like your phone book. If no one gets it, a full page ad won't bring you any business. If no one is using the online directory, a listing within it will not bring you business.

If enough people use the directory, and enough people find your listing, and enough people contact you, it just might be a financially sound investment.
